An Adapplet is just a regular Java applet.
But there is a trick.
And of course, the fancy texts above are adapplets too... (if the text does not look so fancy, click here).
The ones that you can see on this site have been compiled using Aonix' ObjectAda compiler. And if you don't believe us, you can get the sources of our Adapplets (and class files too)- and why not - use them on your web site, we have some very interesting classes, and they are freely usable !
You don't want to learn a new language for each kind of application, would you ? So, the question should rather be "why should you write your applets in Java", now that you can simply use Ada. You get the whole power, readability, ease of maintenance, and standardisation of Ada, with the same API and the same functionnalities as Java applets.
While a serious user would want to buy the full version of the Aonix compiler, the free version is sufficient to compile the kind of Adapplets you see here. And there is a even a Java version of GNAT. See our page about free compilers for details.
Of course, Adalog is not the only one to use Adapplets. Here are some links to pages that contain some. And if you know about others, please tell us.
There are lots of ressources about the Ada/Java connection on the Web. A good start is the Java beginners page, or Intermetric's Ada-Java page.
